Announcement – Matka won the “Museum of the Year” award
Skopje, 18.05.2018 – The Exhibition Center Matka is the winner of the “Museum of the Year” award presented by ICOM (International Council of Museums) – Macedonia. The award is given on the occasion of 18 May – the International Day of Museums for special achievements in its activity for 2017.
EVN Macedonia opened the Exhibition Center Matka last year, and it has been visited by over 7,000 visitors and was presented at the Annual Conference of the European Museum Academy. In Macedonia, this is the first center dealing with technical sciences, it serves a modern museum approach and the content is presented in a fun and interactive way. The display is located in the building of the old hydroelectric power plant Matka, which is of great importance for the citizens of Skopje because it has enabled the growth and development of the city in the 20th century. The project was preceded by intensive research, and in the exhibition center today you can see original old items, archive materials, films, photographs, interviews and interactive models that were designed especially for this purpose and from which visitors can learn while testing their functions and possibilities.
Matka is open every day except on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
ICOM is the largest international organization of museum workers present in 136 countries with more than 35,000 members. The organization has consultative status in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The Macedonian Committee was established in 1993 and since then sets professional standards that contribute to the creation of quality museum activity.
